What is next for employment law?
The reform of employment law was a pillar of Labour’s election campaign. This was confirmed in the King’s Speech in the summer when the Government announced that it will introduce two new employment Bills:
- The Employment Rights Bill and
- The Draft Equality (Race and Disability) Bill
The Government is motivated to implement employment reform quickly and intends that the Employment Rights Bill is introduced within the first 100 days of the new Parliament, so, possibly around mid-October 2024. That month also sees the introduction of the new duty on employers to take reasonable steps to protect workers from sexual harassment, on 26 October 2024.
In the webinar, Employment Partner Rajiv Joshi, Associate Elinor Rowlands and Senior Practice Support Lawyer Debra Gers will:
- Discuss the high-profile changes to day-one employment rights, in particular, protection from unfair dismissal and the impact on probationary periods
- Consider the implications for employers on the banning of zero-hour contracts
- Explain how the Government intends to repeal minimum service levels and ensure that industrial relations are based around good faith negotiations
- Consider the end to “fire and rehire” and changes to the Code of Practice
- Provide an overview of other key elements of the two Bills
- Explain what action employers should take to comply with the new duty take reasonable steps to protect workers from sexual harassment.
As well as discussion and insights from Rajiv, Elinor and Debra, there will be time for you to ask questions (and we will always ensure your questions are dealt with on an anonymous basis).
