(Un)Acceptable Language in the Workplace - Your Questions Answered - MBL

According to recent research, the number of UK employment tribunal cases relating to the use of ‘banter’ in the workplace rose 44% last year, demonstrating that words that were once used in everyday language can now be found offensive.

This is partly due to more understanding and sensitivity about language and the roots of certain expressions, and partly due to a more thorough understanding of the need to operate in a way that does not cause offence.

However, this can cause difficulties because some people are not aware that certain language or expressions are unacceptable, and also because some people can be very sensitive. It can also cause problems when people use expressions that they know are unacceptable, and they do this deliberately to cause hurt or to get a reaction.

What is, and is not, acceptable in the workplace?
To what extent is the employer responsible for making sure that employees are aware of acceptable and unacceptable language?
What is neutral language?

During this 30-minute webinar, expert speaker Kathy Daniels will explore the answers to these questions and more.
