Specialists in children law, Court of Protection and health and social care law among 11 new Deputy High Court judges

Victoria Butler-Cole KC of 39 Essex Chambers, a specialist in health and social care law, and Julia Cheetham KC of Deans Court Chambers, whose practice involves complex proceedings relating to children and young people, were among 11 Deputy High Court judges appointed last month.
The Lady Chief Justice of England and Wales, Baroness Carr, also appointed the following individuals, under section 9(4) of the Senior Courts Act 1981, for a single fixed six-year term:

- Carolyn Hilder (a judge in the Court of Protection)
- Francesca Kaye (Chancery master)
- Peter MacDonald Eggers KC (7 KBW)
- Debra Powell KC (Serjeants’ Inn)
- David Stone (partner at Allen & Overy)
- Richard Todd KC (1 Hare Court)
- Andrew Twigger KC (Maitland Chambers)
The appointments run from 27 November 2023 to 26 November 2029. They were made following an open competition run by the Judicial Appointments Commission.
