London borough names Binjal as Director of Law, Governance and HR

Lewisham Council has appointed Suki Binjal as Director of Law, Governance and HR.
Binjal, who will join the team in July, had been working with the London Borough of Hackney, where she redesigned and led a modern and sustainable approach to the delivery of legal and governance services.
More recently she has also been working at Birmingham City Council as the interim City Solicitor and Monitoring Officer.
Binjal was President (2017/19) of Lawyers in Local Government, the national membership body representing public sector lawyers.
Previous roles also include Director of Law at the Commission for Racial Equality, a founder member of a Women’s Refuge, Chair of the Portsmouth Equalities forum, as well as various non-executive director roles such as external advisor on the policy committee with the Solicitors’ Regulation Authority.
Binjal said: “Lewisham Council is in an exciting phase of its transformation journey and I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to join the senior leadership team, to drive forward the delivery of members’ ambitious priorities and make a real and lasting difference to the communities within the borough.”
