Unlocking legal talent

Jonathan Bourne of Damar Training sets out why in-house council teams and law firms should embrace apprenticeships.

Lord Reed will succeed Baroness Hale as President of the Supreme Court on 11 January 2020, it has been announced.

The Queen has also conferred a life peerage on Lord Reed in recognition of the contribution that he has made to law and justice reform. He is one of two Scottish justices on the panel and has served as Deputy President.

Lord Justice Hamblen, Lord Justice Leggatt and Professor Andrew Burrows will meanwhile join the Supreme Court as justices on 13 January, 21 April and 2 June 2020 respectively.

Professor Burrows is Professor of the Law of England at Oxford University. He is a Deputy High Court Judge and Recorder on the South-Eastern Circuit, as well as a door tenant at Fountain Court Chambers. He is also a former Law Commissioner.

Lady Hale has served as President of the Supreme Court since September 2017.
