LGA Vacancies

Sean Garbutt has joined Devonshires as a partner, in a move the firm has said will bolster its national construction offering and strengthen its ability to support clients on increasingly complex construction and building safety matters.

Garbutt, who joins the firm after five years at Gowling WLG, specialises in construction disputes, advising clients across the full breadth of the construction industry.

He has acted for employers, main contractors, registered providers, national and regional housebuilders, specialist subcontractors, consultants, insurers, insolvency practitioners and end-users.

Garbutt has particular expertise in matters arising under the Building Safety Act and associated regulations and has acted on a number of Remediation Orders and Remediation Contribution Order matters.

He also advises registered providers and funders on managing historic and future building safety liabilities in connection with acquisitions, disposals and development projects.

He advises on a broad range of construction disputes, including claims relating to delay, defects, payment and insolvency. His experience spans projects across the housing, commercial, infrastructure, logistics, rail and energy sectors, as well as advising on issues arising from long-term PFI and PPP contracts.

Commenting on the move, Garbutt said "The firm's reputation for advising on complex construction disputes and building safety matters, together with its strong relationships across the real estate and social housing sectors, makes it a compelling opportunity.

“I look forward to working with colleagues across the firm and supporting our clients in Birmingham, across the Midlands and throughout the UK."

Mark London, Head of Construction at Devonshires, said Garbutt has “an outstanding reputation in construction disputes and building safety”, adding: “His experience will further strengthen the depth of expertise within our team.

“Sean's appointment also enhances our presence in Birmingham, allowing us to provide even greater support to our clients in and around the Midlands, while continuing to grow our national Construction practice."
