Law firm given £240k contract to advise new body for protection of rights of EU and other citizens

Law firm Browne Jacobson has been appointed to a £240,000, one-year contract to augment the in-house legal team being set up for the Independent Monitoring Authority for the Citizens’ Rights Agreements (IMA).
The IMA, which was launched at the end of 2020, is to work to protect the rights of EU and EEA EFTA (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) citizens in the UK and Gibraltar.
A non-department body of the Ministry of Justice, it will monitor UK public bodies “to make sure they implement the rights of these citizens and by identifying any underlying issues”.
The appointment of Browne Jacobson was via a call off from a framework agreement.
The contract is due to run until 31 December 2021.
