University names Eversheds Sutherland to £1.2m legal services contract

The University of Portsmouth has appointed Eversheds Sutherland to a £1.2m contract to work in partnership with its in-house legal team.
The university said it had been looking for a firm that was “willing to become familiar with how the university operates, has empathy with our vision and values and can act as our trusted advisor”.
It anticipated that it would require support in the following areas (a list that was non-exhaustive): procurement law, state aid law, commercial property and construction law, charities law, civil litigation support, commercial and company law, employment and immigration law, intellectual property law, data protection and freedom of information law, pension law, international law, education law, compliance with relevant government policy and guidance, regulatory/professional standards.
The contract was awarded on the basis of quality (weighting: 80%) and cost (weighting: 20%).
Ten tenders were received.
