Care applications to Cafcass break new records in last four months

The number of care applications received by Cafcass in the first four months of 2015/2016 was at record levels, it has emerged.
For April to July 2015, there were 4,092 applications. This compares to:
- 3,580 for April to July 2014;
- 3,632 for April to July 2013;
- 3,546 for April to July 2012; and
- 3,252 for April to July 2011.
The figure for last month was 1,111 care applications – up 9% on July 2014. This was a new record for a single month, although only just as there were 1,108 applications in June this year.
The total number of care applications annually is as follows: 11,149 in 2014/15; 10,620 in 2013/14; 11,110 in 2012/13; and 10,255 in 2011/12.
