London borough chief executive resigns in wake of drug charge

Lambeth Council's chief executive, who was arrested and charged last month with a series of driving and drug offences, has resigned from his position at the London borough.

In a statement released this morning, a spokesperson for the local authority said Bayo Dosunmu will step down with effect from Monday 15 July 2024.

The announcement comes two weeks on from news that Dosunmu had been charged with possession of a Class A drug, being the driver of a vehicle that failed to stop after a road accident, and being in charge of a motor vehicle with an alcohol level above the proscribed limit.

The Metropolitan Police also charged him with using a motor vehicle on a road or public place without third-party insurance.

The council said Fiona Connolly is currently acting chief executive and announced that it will shortly begin the process of recruiting a permanent chief executive.
