Car meet attendees fined nearly £15k over public space protection order breach

The group were handed the fines after appearing in court following the meet at Trafford Palazzo in March 2025.

Police attended after hearing reports of suspected illegal motoring, with several vehicles driving in an anti-social manner.

Greater Manchester Police and Trafford Council later launched an investigation to identify those who attended the unauthorised event, which was advertised over social media.

There is a public space protection order (PSPO) in place in Trafford, which means anyone taking part in an unauthorised motoring event or driving in an anti-social manner may be issued with a minimum fine of £100.

The PSPO, which has been in place since 2016, was issued under sections 59 and 60 of the Anti-Social Behaviour Crime and Policing Act 2014. It was extended for a further three years in 2023.  

An initial £100 fine was issued to 29 offenders over breaches of the PSPO, with a further 17 people each issued fines ranging from £408 to £1,780, totalling £14,921 between them.

Cllr Rose Thompson, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Communities and Safety, said: “We will not tolerate this kind of behaviour in our borough and my thanks go to Greater Manchester Police for arresting those responsible. These car meets are extremely dangerous and a huge risk to our residents.”
