Care applications: another month, another record

The number of care applications received by Cafcass in April was – at 748 – the highest ever recorded by the organisation for that individual month, it has been revealed.
The previous highest figure for April was recorded in 2010, when there were 692 applications. In 2008, there were just 380.
The latest statistics conform to the trend of rising applications. In 2011/12, Cafcass received 10,218 new applications – up 11% on the previous financial year and 57% on 2008/09.
Applications between May 2011 and February 2012 were all records for those individual months.
Local Government Lawyer reported earlier this year how Cafcass had recorded – in January 2012 – the highest ever number of care applications for a single month (916).
