Judicial Appointments Commission issues call for candidates for Legal Members of Education Tribunal for Wales

Candidates for the post must be a barrister or solicitor with five years’ post-qualification experience.

In addition, candidates must have at least three years’ knowledge and experience as an advocate or judge in Education Law, specifically Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND), and/or Additional Learning Needs (ALN).

Tribunal hearings are conducted both remotely, via video conference, and in person across all regions of Wales.

The JAC noted that candidates must be “willing and able” to hear cases throughout Wales, travel independently, and stay overnight where required.

The Tribunal hears appeals relating to a child or young person’s special educational needs and claims brought for disability discrimination under the Equality Act 2010.

The deadline for applications is Tuesday 18 August 2026.
