A Birmingham man has been ordered to pay nearly £3,000 in fines and costs after he repeatedly breached noise abatement orders by playing loud music.
Birmingham City Council prosecuted Vincent Caines, 21, of Grosvenor Road, Handsworth, after he failed to comply with a notice served on 25 November 2014.
The local authority’s officers executed a search warrant last December and seized audio equipment.
After further problems, the council seized further items on 9 February 2015.
Birmingham Magistrates’ Court last week (8 May) found Caines guilty in his absence of two offences under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
The defendant was fined £1,400 and ordered to pay £1,492 in costs.
Jacqui Kennedy, Director of Regulation & Enforcement at Birmingham City Council, said: “The Department have received complaints about loud music coming from Mr Caines’ home since September 2014 and as a result he was served with a noise abatement notice on 25 November 2014 as he was unwilling to work with our officers.
“Environmental health continued to receive complaints and, as a result, seized audio equipment from his home on two occasions.
“Despite being asked to turn down the volume, he has repeatedly broken the terms of this notice and shown a lack of respect for his neighbours’ welfare and wellbeing.”
