running elections bookThe complete guide to running lawful, free and fair elections designed specifically for returning officers, candidates, election agents, registration and elections staff and everyone else who might need to know how electoral law and practice is applied in the UK.

running elections bookThe complete guide to running lawful, free and fair elections designed specifically for returning officers, candidates, election agents, registration and elections staff and everyone else who might need to know how electoral law and practice is applied in the UK.

The 2022 edition has been prepared for this year’s May elections, and is fully revised up to 1 February. It takes into account new legislation (including the major changes in Wales) as well as associated guidance from the Electoral Commission. In its 35 succinct chapters, it also incorporates advice and suggestions about managing the electoral process in a Covid world, taking into account the experiences of May 2021.

As well as setting out the legislation (and where to find it quickly), and all the stages of managing polling processes of every kind, other new chapters include help and support about the new Elections Bill, as well as the pandemic; there is also advice about external relationships, and what to do when unforeseen problems arise. The authors have both served as Regional Returning Officers, and have long experience in both electoral registration, polling problems and demands, and the interface with Government and the Commission.
